Gardeners in the Burnham-On-Sea area have been urged to double check the safety of their bonfires before lighting them after fire crews were called to two incidents on Friday (July 18th).
Crews were called to bonfires out of control in North Avenue, Highbridge on Friday evening and in Brent Knoll earlier in the day.
“We were called to reports of smoke billowing across the A38 near the Brent House pub so helped a gardener put out a bonfire that had got out of control,” said a fire spokesman.
“In the second incident, we received several calls from Highbridge residents concerned about lots of black smoke. Once again, we ensured that the bonfire was brought under control.”
He added: “In periods of dry weather, remember that bushes and trees can easily catch alight so check that bonfires are well away from other vegetation and keep a close eye on them when lit to ensure that safety is maintained.”
