Burnham-On-Sea fire crew tackles out-of-control East Huntspill bonfire

-

Burnham-On-Sea firefighters were called to East Huntspill on Wednesday morning (August 1st) to tackle an out-of-control bonfire.

Crews rushed to Withy Road in East Huntspill at 8.45am where the fire was underway and in danger of spreading.

“One fire appliance from Burnham-On-Sea was mobilised to a fire of unknown origin out in the open in the area of Withy Road,” said a spokesman.

“Upon arrival this was found to be a bonfire measuring 10m x 5m consisting of wood chippings and horse manure that had become out-of-control and was threatening to spread to nearby trees and vegetation.”

“Crews got to work immediately using hose reel jets and drag forks to extinguish the fire before it spread.”

“Having managed to extinguish it, crews put a stop message back at approximately 10.30am.”

Fire safety advice was given to the person who lit the bonfire.
