A long-running building firm in Burnham-On-Sea has gone into administration with the loss of more than 20 jobs.
Boley and Skuse Ltd was established in 1952 and was based in Berrow Road.
The firm had an annual turnover of £1.5-2million and was a supplier of building services to local authorities including Somerset County Council and Sedgemoor District Council.
The company undertook major repairs to Burnham’s jetty in 2009, as we featured here and pictured above.
Boley and Skuse also built the new Berrow Football Club Pavilion following a fire, as we featured here in 2007 and the firm also undertook exterior work at Burnham’s Princess Theatre.
A statement issued to local schools on Somerset County Council’s website from Helen Acreman, a Divisional Manager, states here: “We have been advised that Boley & Skuse have called in the administrators, therefore will not be able to continue with the Term Maintenance Contract for repairs.”
“Some properties will have either outstanding orders or part-completed orders which will need to be completed by another contractor.”
A Sedgemoor spokeswoman added: “Sedgemoor District Council are saddened to hear that Boley and Skuse have gone into administration, as we have had a good working relationship with them over the past three years, as the Council’s small works building/repairs contractor. If any employees need help or advice about opportunities for re-employment, SDC will be more than happy to talk with them.”
