Burnham-On-Sea police offer advice on beating bogus callers

-

Police are to hold a special public meeting in Highbridge next Wednesday (May 21st) where residents can learn about protecting themselves from bogus callers.

Burnham police will be holding the presentation at 10am in Highbridge’s Morland Hall to warn residents of the dangers of bogus callers and to provide practical advice and information about how they should respond if they receive unsolicited calls.

“While most house callers are genuine, distraction burglars will call unannounced to trick their way into people’s homes and steal money or valuables,” explained Highbridge PCSO Claire Chambers, who is one of the event’s organisers.

“Older people can be particularly vulnerable to this type of crime. The presentation will drive home the message that older people should always say ‘no’ to cold callers, always check ID, and report any suspect callers to the police.”

The event is free and open to all, but due to limited seating those wishing to attend should call Burnham Police Station on 01823 363450 to reserve a place.
