Brian Price, spokesman for British Transport Police, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A post mortem examination of the body of a woman discovered lineside at Dunball foot crossing yesterday has this afternoon confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.”
“However, the cause of death has yet to be established and further tests are required. Police are satisfied the woman was not struck by a train.”
The woman is expected to be formally identified tomorrow, Thursday, and there are indications that the person may be the missing pensioner who sparked a major search in the Burnham-On-Sea area on Tuesday, as reported here.
British Transport Police officers completed searches of the lineside today (Wednesday) and the line was fully handed back to Network Rail at 4pm.
The body of the woman was found about 150 yards from the crossing.
