Burnham-On-Sea’s MP has paid tribute to the Chairman of Somerset Tourism Association who has died this week.
Bob Smart, pictured right, was a big personality and enthusiast of Somerset who was a regular visitor to the Burnham area.
He has died at home after a short illness and MP James Heappey told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was with huge sadness that I heard of the death of Somerset Tourism Association stalwart and Chairman Bob Smart.”
“I have had the pleasure of working with Bob over the last few years as I have sought to support him and the team at Visit Somerset to show off all that is great about our County.”
“All who knew Bob could not help but be struck by his incredible warmth, generosity and his unstinting commitment to tourism in Somerset.”
“His email of two weeks ago to his many friends and colleagues in which he had accepted that the end of his life was coming but in which he also shared his huge pride in all that he had done during his life, was an inspiration to all.”
“The Somerset tourism industry is now growing quickly; those of us involved in building that success do so entirely on the foundations left by Bob Smart.”
