Over 160 BMX enthusiasts flocked to Burnham-On-Sea’s cycle track at Apex Wildlife Park at the weekend for an fast-paced day of two-wheeled action.
Burnham-On-Sea BMX Club hosted round one of the South West Regional BMX series.
“Thankfully the weather held off and a great day was had by all. There were just over 160 riders of all ages,” Club Secretary Matt Duckering told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
He said local riders had done well, with James Duckering coming second and James Derry coming fourth in the 7 year-olds class.
Rebecca Duckering was third in her class for 10-12 year old girls, which was brilliant considering it was her first year. Haley Derry came fifth in the female 10-12 year old class which Matt described as “absolutely fantastic” because it was her first ever race.
Bradley Day and Sam Derry were first and second in the B final of the 10 – 12 boys, while Sophie Gilroy did really well to come first in the B final of the 10 – 12 girls. Dan Tipton came fourth in the highly competitive 16 year old males category, while Lauren Stack raced the boys and in a tough field came fourth.
Matt added: “A fantastic day was had by all and a big thank you goes to all the volunteers and riders who travelled far and wide to support the event.”
