Burnham-On-Sea’s BMX club has seen a surge in new members after the Rio Olympics boosted interest in the sport.
The club – whose most famous member is Burnham Olympics cyclist Liam Phillips – is holding a series of open days this month for potential new members to try out the sport at the Apex Park track.
The club’s members include 9 year-old British and national champion Taylor Hunt, right. Six year-old Jenson Hunt was also fourth in the British championships in his age group this year.
“All the publicity around Liam at the Rio Olympics this past summer has helped us – it promoted the sport and is encouraging local
youngsters to give it a go,” the club’s Sue Cornelius told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We have 30 members and are growing all the time – but we’d like to see more from the Burnham area taking part so we’re holding a series of open days for people to find out more.”
“We would like to train the next generation of champions. BMX is a fun sport and we aim to continue the club’s success with youngsters from across the area.”
Burnham BMX Club is open this Saturday from 11am-2pm.
