Britain In Bloom success for Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge

-

Organisers of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s entries in the Britain In Bloom competition were celebrating on Thursday (September 17th) after winning sought-after awards.

Burnham won a silver award, while Highbridge went one better and received a silver gilt in its first year in the competition.

The Friends of Apex Park group was also celebrating after receiving a Certificate of Outstanding Achievement in the Neighbourhood Awards.

Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor Derick Cooper and Mayoress Christine Cooper travelled to the awards ceremony in Yeovil to support Burnham’s Richard Young and Dave Perrett, and Highbridge’s Pam Lyes, Joyce Curtis, Ray Reddish.

Mr Cooper told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “They’ve all done incredibly well.”

“The organisers in Burnham and Highbridge and the members of the Friends Of Apex Park all deserve success after putting in so much effort in the run-up to the judging.”

The Friends Of Apex Park’s Derek Chivers collected a certificate from the VIP guest, actor Trevor Peacock, of Vicar of Dibley fame.

Burnham-On-Sea was awarded a silver gilt award in the 2008 Britain In Bloom Sergent Cup, which is open to mid-sized towns across the region.

Burnham In Bloom’s Richard Young said on Thursday evening: “It wasn’t quite such a good result for Burnham as last year, but we’re still pleased given the dreadful weather on the judging day when many of our blooms were damaged by wind and heavy rain.”

The Bloom judges were also impressed with Highbridge – which they visited in July. The organisers are understandably delighted to have picked up a silver gilt award in the Ayre Cup during their first year in the competition.
