A splash of colour has been added to Burnham-On-Sea’s streets this week as the town gears up to take part in this year’s Britain In Bloom competition.
Organisers have been hanging baskets of flowers along the town’s High Street and public flower beds have also been planted in readiness for next month’s contest.
Burnham County Councillor Peter Burridge-Clayton also brought a smile to the organisers’ faces when he handed them a £250 donation, as pictured above.
Burnham In Bloom Chairman Dave Perrett told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Wednesday (June 9th) that everything is being done to ensure the town is as colourful as possible for the judges’ inspection in July.
“We’ve put up 25 baskets along the High Street and have had good support from the council with many flower beds already planted,” he said.
After the recent news that the organisers’ funding had been cut by cash-strapped Sedgemoor District Council, the team welcomed County Councillor Peter Burridge-Clayton’s donation of £250 from his council community fund.
“I wanted to support Burnham’s entry into the competition, which is of benefit to residents and visitors alike,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “Everyone is very grateful for the work that the Burnham In Bloom team put into our entry each year.”
There’s still time for businesses and residents to enter their gardens and shopfronts into the local competition too – entry forms are available from the Tourist Information Centre.
Highbridge is also preparing to take part in the competition this year and its hanging baskets are also now in place, as Burnham-On-Sea.com recently reported here.
