Britain In Bloom judges ‘impressed’ by Burnham-On-Sea during visit

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s hopes of achieving success in the Britain In Bloom competition were given a boost this week when two judges visited the town.

The judges were met by Burnham In Bloom organiser Dave Perrett and supporters on Monday July 10th, as pictured here.

The judges were said to be “impressed” by their tour of the town, which started on the town’s seafront.

Burnham In Bloom Chairman Dave Perrett told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We hope that we’ve done well – it was a good visit.”

He added: “The judges started off at the sailing club and viewed the flower beds along the Esplanade lawns, before visiting the old cemetry, High Street and both Apex Park and Marine Cove, which are entered into the parks category.”

“The judges also visited Kathleen Chambers, Beaufort House and Pembroke Close, plus Home Farm holiday park, which is entered into the tourism category, and Salt Express which is in the commercial section. They also visited several groups of houses in Burnham.”

“The sun came out and made the town’s floral displays look more colourful than usual,” he added.

Dave told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the team now face a nervous wait until the autumn to find out how well Burnham has done.

Burnham-On-Sea last entered the contest in 2011, when it won a coveted Silver Gilt award, as we reported here at the time.

Work to improve Burnham’s High Street with new paving, lighting columns and hanging bakets as part of the town’s ‘Tesco 106 funding project’ meant Burnham has been unable to enter since.

“We needed all the work to be finished and the new hanging baskets installed along the High Street, and those are now in place,” explained Dave.
