The organisers of Burnham-On-Sea’s entry into the national Britain In Bloom competition are this week celebrating after the town won a silver award.
Burnham In Bloom organisers Dave Perrett and Jo Brown received the award from ITV Downton Abbey stars Lord Julian Fellowes and Lady Emma Fellowes, as pictured here, during a ceremony in Torquay.
The South West in Bloom judges visited Burnham-On-Sea over the summer, as we reported here, when they were “impressed” by floral displays and the standard of The Esplanade, High Street, several businesses and care homes, plus Apex Park and Marine Cove.
Burnham In Bloom Chairman Dave Perrett told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted that Burnham has won a silver award in the pennant category for towns. It’s exciting to get this award after a gap of several years.”
Burnham-On-Sea last entered the contest in 2011. Work to improve Burnham’s High Street with new paving, lighting columns and hanging baskets as part of the town’s ‘Tesco 106 funding project’ meant the town has been unable to enter since.
Dave added: “It’s a great recognition of the work that goes in to making Burnham look good over the summer, with hanging baskets, flowers beds and displays. The judges were impressed with what they saw and have also given us some constructive feedback for how Burnham can be improved further.”
Dave and Jo attended the awards ceremony at the Imperial Hotel in Torquay alongside 370 other people from across the UK. “It was a superb event and great to meet the Downton Abbey stars,” he said.
They also received several other certificates which will be presented during the Burnham In Bloom awards presentation evening on November 3rd.
