Fire crews tackled a blaze at a Highbridge company’s premises last night (Wednesday, May 27th).
Firefighters from Burnham-on-Sea, Bridgwater and Street tackled the blaze at ‘Swallo Drinks’ in Evercreech Way, which began at 6.15pm.
An electrical fire had quickly spread inside the building, destroying a van and leaving fire and smoke damage inside the premises.
Crews used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to tackle the blaze, along with an aerial ladder platform from Bridgwater. The fire was extinguished at around 8.20pm.
A spokesman from Swallo Drinks told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Fortunately, most of our products have not been damaged and so we’ll be open for business as normal on Thursday, ready to supply our customers.”
“The fire began in a fuse box and spread to our delivery van and caused some damage inside, but it was contained and our production area was not damaged. If could have been a lot more serious.”
Fire crews said 20% of the unit had been damaged by fire, 30% suffered smoke damage, and 60% was affected by heat damage. They added that the incident was believed to have been accidental.
