A new £10,000 sports facility has opened in Brent Knoll this weekend, thanks to community funding from a solar farm developer.
Richard Hall, Chairman of Brent Knoll Parish Council, opened the new Multi Use Games Area on the village green on Saturday (September 10th).
“The village’s children previously had to made do with a football goal made of scaffolding with no net, so this is a huge improvement that’s greatly appreciated by youngsters,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
The new facilities have been jointly funded by the Parish Council and £5,000 from Hadstone Energy to off-set its nearby 90-acre solar energy farm.
Hadstone has given a £30,000 community grant to the three parishes affected by its solar farm development – Lympsham, Berrow and Brent Knoll.
“A big thank you goes to Hadstone for their funding of these new facilities,” added Mr Hall.
And Cllr Brian Freestone, who led the working group that explored the options for the site, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The new games facility has an astro-turf surface and enables cricket, basketball and football to be played all year-round. It’s been in place just a few days and is already being actively used.”
“We looked at several options here and we’re very happy with the final result which, thanks to its green surface, blends in well with the environment.”
