Two cyclists have been fined by Burnham-On-Sea police as part of a safety initiative to reduce the number of night-time accidents involving unlit bikes.
A 23 year-old man from Highbridge and a 21 year-old man from Burnham-On-Sea were each stopped while using a bicycle without lights.
“As they failed to produce cycle lights at the police station within the required period, they have each been fined £25 with £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge,” a police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
The fines were made as part of Burnham Police’s ongoing ‘Operation Glitter’ initiative to reduce the number of casualties on local roads caused by cycling without lights.
Under the Operation Glitter scheme, the offender has seven days to attend the police station with proof of purchase of lights fitted onto their bikes.
