Cyclists could soon be able to use a new off-road cycle link between Brean and Weston-super-Mare under proposals unveiled this week.
The route is among several sustainable transport routes being planned by Somerset County Council as part of an initiative to encourage healthy living.
A County Council spokesperson told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Monday (December 1st): “Somerset County Council, with several partners, is supporting the development of the ‘Stop Line Way’, a long distance leisure cycling route from Weston-Super-Mare to Seaton in Devon, and recently resolved to allocate £200,000 from the Rural Regeneration Fund to enable further progress to be made with this project.”
“The first call on this allocation will be used to progress development of an off-road section between Chard and Chard Junction in South Somerset with any remaining funds from this allocation being available for improvements to the route elsewhere in Somerset.”
“The section between Weston-Super-Mare and Brean would form part of the completed ‘Stop Line Way’, but it is not possible to say when this section will be delivered as it will be dependent upon funding being available and landowner consent being obtained.”
A council report on the proposals recently stated: “Delivery of this route could considerably improve sustainable travel between Brean and Weston, both for staff travelling between the two areas for low-paid seasonal work, and for holidaymakers wishing to access Weston without taking the car.”
