Teenager praised after rescuing girl stuck in rhyne after bike accident
A teenager scooped a seven year-old girl out of a rhyne after she fell in while riding a bike at a Brean holiday park.
Jack Haines, 13, acted quickly to haul young Rosie Appleby out of the water after she became trapped after her bicycle skidded into the rhyne.
The incident happened on Sunday when Rosie, who was eight on Monday, was riding her bike towards a bridge at Warren Farm where she has been holidaying with her family.
Unfortunately, when she tried to brake her wheels skidded along the wet ground, missed the bridge and she tumbled into a rhyne.
While one of her arms had become stuck beneath her bike, she used the other to raise the alarm and call for help.
Plucky Jack rushed to help her out of the water while remaining calm throughout.
Jack and Rosie’s parents said his quick actions could have prevented a more serious incident.
Rosie’s relieved mum, Linda Appleby, said Rosie was so lucky that Jack was walking past when he was, adding that he kept ever so calm and pulled her out of the water even though she was covered in algae and mud.
Warren Farm Holiday Centre is now looking at whether improvements to safety can be introduced.
