Plans to turn seafront nursing home into guesthouse gain approval

-

Proposals to convert this prominent former nursing home on Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront into a guesthouse have been given final approval by Sedgemoor District Council this week.

The council’s planning department passed a ‘change of use’ application for Beverley Cottage residential care home on the North Esplanade to be converted into a guesthouse incorporating owner’s accommodation.

Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported on the plans in March. The former nursing home has been vacant since owners Brunelcare close down the facilities in 2009 due to financial pressures.

Town councillors strongly supported the plans earlier this year, saying they would create new jobs and encourage more visitors to visit the town.

A couple from Oxfordshire, who soon hope to purchase the property, submitted the plans.
