Mayor draws Easter raffle winners at new Burnham-On-Sea sweet shop

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor has this week shown his support for a new traditional sweet shop in the town by drawing its Easter raffle.

Cllr Ken Smout drew the winning entries in a contest to win two giant chocolate eggs at Bessie’s Sweet Shoppe in The High Street.

The draw, which raised funds for Burnham Lions, was won by local residents Phil Hemming and Simon Shepherd.

Ken told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I was delighted to come along and support this new business in the town centre. I wish the shop every success for the future which will help further add to the vibrancy and range of products sold on our High Street.”

He added: “I also apologise for not attending the shop’s formal opening last Saturday. This was down to a simple break down in communication within the council and I am sorry for this. After many hundreds of successful Mayoral engagements over the past year, I am sorry about this one.”

As recently reported here, Burnham residents Les and Sue Barber have opened the new business at 44 The High Street. Alongside jars of old-fashioned sweets and seaside rock are locally-made chocolates, fudges and ice cream.
