A family-run confectionery store in Burnham-On-Sea has tasted sweet success by being named among the UK’s top 100 small businesses.
Bessie’s Sweet Shoppe in the High Street has been included in the list set up by Shadow Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills Chuka Umunna to promote ‘Small Business Saturday’, a day of awareness to be held on December 7th.
The shop – which opened in March – is run by Burnham residents Les and Sue Barber.
It prides itself on following old-fashioned traditions and will be holding a traditional Father Christmas grotto this year to raise money for good causes on Small Business Saturday.
Les told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s a great honour to receive this accolade. We are building up a good strong reputation for providing great quality local products.”
Chuka Umunna said: “Establishing a Small Business Saturday in the UK, a concept which has enjoyed considerable success in the US, would provide a small but simple and effective way to celebrate local small businesses and encourage more people to buy from them on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.”
