Travellers on Berrow Village Green leave after council legal pressure

-

A group of travellers camped on Berrow village green packed up and left on Saturday evening (July 30th) amid legal pressure from the Parish Council.

It comes after several of the travellers camped on the grassed area left in the middle of the week, but another group with around eight vehicles remained in place until Saturday evening, citing “human rights issues”.

Residents and local councillors were able to breathe a sigh of relief on Saturday evening that the occupation of the green at the height of the holiday season was finally over.

While one resident said on Saturday evening that the green itself seemed to have been left in a “fairly clean condition with rubbish stacked tidily in bags”, a clean-up of the hedges and land around the green is now being planned.

Local councillors are also now under pressure to come up with proposals to prevent further occupations of the green in the future.
