Berrow School’s banner marks 200th birthday of education society

-

Talented young artists at Berrow Primary School have been presented with books and certificates for their work in designing and making a new
banner.

Pauline Dodds, from the Diocese of Bath and Wells Education Centre, handed over the rewards to the youngsters following their work in creating the historic banner.

The item was created to mark the 200th anniversary of The National Society (Church of England) for Promoting Religious Education, which set up education for the poor in 1811.

Berrow School has researched the national archives and found their trust deed, which dates back to 1842 when the school started.

The children, Ben, Chloe, Abigail and Paige, were helped by members of St Mary’s Church in Berrow – Julia Gaunt and Verity Trevor-Morgan in creating the new banner, pictured above.
