Residents in Berrow are today (Monday, November 23rd) appealing to Burnham-On-Sea.com readers to call a competition hotline to help them secure £50,000 of funding for a new play area in the village.
As we first reported earlier this month, the parish council’s application for funding to refurbish the play area on the Village Green has been short-listed to receive lottery funding – but to get the cash, the Berrow campaigners need to win a TV vote being organised by ITV West.
The competition phone line, 0871 62 68 135, opened at 9am this morning and will close at midnight tonight. Each caller can phone up to ten times and every call costs just 10p from a landline.
As first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com earlier this year, residents submitted an application to The Big Lottery People’s Millions scheme back in May in a bid to win the £50,000 of funding.
They want to transform the current, old-fashioned play area into a safe, modern and challenging environment called Berrow’s Empowering Play Area (BEPA).
ITV West’s cameras have been in Berrow during recent days, as pictured here, to record a segment about the project which will be broadcast on ITV West News this evening from 6pm.
Parish Council’s Chairman, Jenny Bentley, will appeal to viewers to vote in favour of the village’s scheme.
She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Viewers are being asked to choose between our project and one other from the ITV regional news area. The one that receives the most votes will be declared the winner and will be given the grant of £50,000.”
