Berrow residents and parish councillors are celebrating this week after being told their application for funding to refurbish the village’s play area has been short-listed to receive lottery funding – but to get the money they need YOUR help.
As first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com earlier this year, residents submitted an application to The Big Lottery People’s Millions scheme back in May in a bid to win £50,000 of funding.
They want to transform the current, old-fashioned play area into a new safe, modern and challenging environment called Berrow’s Empowering Play Area (BEPA).
The project is competing against one other scheme and a public vote will be held later this month to determine who ‘wins’ the funding windfall.
Berrow Parish Council’s Chairman, Jenny Bentley, will appear on ITV West’s news programme on November 23rd when she will appeal to viewers to vote in favour of the village’s scheme.
She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Viewers will be asked to choose between our project and one other project from the ITV regional news area. The one that receives the most votes will be declared the winner and will be given the grant of £50,000.”
“This is a huge amount and will transform our play area on the Village Green and turn our dreams into reality.”
“Voting lines will be open on 23rd November only between 9am and midnight. You will be able to vote up to ten times from each telephone line.”
The telephone number you need to phone will be released on the day on Peoplesmillions.org.uk and Burnham-On-sea.com. It will also be published in the Daily Mirror.
Jenny added: Please look out for the posters and banners and please, please, please support our project by voting for us.”
“It is really important that you vote the telephone number and vote for us anyway. Please also ask all your family and friends to support us by voting for our project. Every vote counts!”
