Residents in Berrow who recently formed a Local Action Team (LAT), supported by local police, to address issues affecting their community are holding a public meeting this week to discuss a raft of projects.
The Berrow LAT has already introduced a Community Speedwatch (CSW) group to tackle speeding through the village – and more initiatives are planned.
The LAT is holding a public meeting in the village on Monday evening (February 9th) at 7pm in Berrow Village Hall to discuss further projects.
Organisers are urging local residents to attend. Spokesman Ken May told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The only commitments are an hour a month to attend the meeting, then do what you can in the time before the next meeting to drive forward the target issues.”
“It doesn’t matter about your age or occupation; we just need people with a positive ‘can do’ attitude to help achieve our goals. Ideally, we will drive forward the issues already started and with more people powering the initiatives, progress may be accelerated. Please come to the meeting, where you’ll be made most welcome.”
He added: “So far, since October, we’ve got a small Committee, including a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and other community members. We have a constitution, a tiny amount of funding, and have already set about three projects.”
“We hope to push forward the provision of a youth club for Berrow children, the provision of a BMX/skateboard park, and tackle the ongoing issue of the Coast Road footpath. We need the help of villagers to highlight the dangers and pressure the relevant authorities into action.”
Berrow Parish Council is actively supporting the group’s efforts, along with Somerset County Council and Avon & Somerset Constabulary.
