Now travellers arrive on Berrow Green as MP vows to step in to help

-

A group of travellers arrived on Berrow’s Village Green on Sunday evening (July 17th) as the area’s ongoing problems with travellers continues.

The caravans arrived mid-evening and Berrow Parish Council said it had already taken the first steps to getting them moved on.

Parish Council Chairman Barry Kew told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Sunday evening: “We have been in contact with the Police to report that they have arrived and we will be taking further steps during Monday to formally ask them to move on ahead of legal action if required.”

He added: “The issue of travellers does seem to have been a real problem in the Burnham-On-Sea area this summer, although we have been fortunate in Berrow not to have them on our village green for several years.”

“The government needs to do more to help parish and town councils to move travellers on faster.”

James Heappey, the area’s MP, told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Sunday evening that he has various discussions underway to push for more to be done to help local authorities tackle the travellers problem. “I fully sympathise with local councils and residents,” he said.
