Berrow Beach to be transformed into movie set for Iraqi kidnap film

-

Part of Berrow beach, near Burnham-On-Sea, is to be turned into a movie set in May when an action-packed feature film about a hostage situation in the Iraqi desert is filmed there.

Iraqi soldiers will appear in the film The Cell, being filmed on Berrow BeachA crew of ten people and three actors will descend on the beach to film a 10-minute short film called ‘The Cell’.

The scenes will be shot on Saturday May 6th between 10am and 6pm and will involve shots of a car moving, then being stopped and the occupants inside being taken hostage.

Although beach walkers hoping to catch a glimpse of Arnie or Tom Hanks will be sadly disappointed, the Bristol University production is still likely to be seen by many viewers around the country.

Film producer Rohan Kapoor (pictured right with director Ross Beamish) told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It will be shown at film festivals across the UK and hopefully abroad too, so it will have quite large audiences.”

“Berrow beach is perfect for us. We wanted to recreate the desert look without actually travelling too far. Our director loved the look of the beach. The desolate, dry appearance makes it ideal.”

The students are studying for an MA in Film and Television Production.
