A Berrow couple raised a cuppa and £2,000 for charity on Saturday (June 23rd) when they held a fundraising cream tea in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

For a fifth year, Steve and Hilary Cox served up hundreds of teas to the general public – including Burnham’s MP Tessa Munt – at their home, Newcote in Brent Road, to raise cash for the worthy cause.

Organiser Hilary Cox told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m so proud to tell you that we have managed to raise over £2,000 in our 5th annual cream tea!”

“Both the cake stall and the plant stall were well supported by locals and visitors alike, and managed to beat last years’ totals to raise this magnificent sum, and due to generous donations from individuals, and local businesses alike, we were able to realise a superb result in just three hours.”

“The support of local people continues to amaze us – both with the help on the day, and the commitment from our friends and neighbours during the weeks before the event.”

“We couldn’t achieve such a result without the support of everyone. We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone. During the past five years that we have held this event, we have raised over £7,000 for the charity.”

“We would like to thank everyone who supported us, and those who have given so generously both today and in the past – we appreciate all your help.”
