A Berrow couple will be raising a cuppa for charity today (Saturday, June 23rd) when they hold a fundraising cream tea in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
For a fifth year, Steve and Hilary Cox (pictured) will be serving up hundreds of teas to the general public at their home, Newcote in Brent Road, from 2-5pm to raise cash for the worthy cause.
Hilary told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “So many people have been touched by cancer in some way or another, so this is a great way that they can support a charity dedicated to helping terminally ill people remain in their homes.”
“This will be our 5th year, and we plan to make it bigger and better than ever – all the neighbours are busy making, baking and growing plants in order to beat last year’s total of £2,100 in 3 hours.”
“We were the largest tea party in the whole of the South West and Wales last year, and served over 200 cream teas to locals and holidaymakers. Some even popped in for ‘takeaway teas’ due to work or other commitments, and rather than miss out completely, they took their cream tea with them!”
“We will have our usual plant and cake stalls, and this year, we are selling a selection of Marie Curie branded items which are ideal to give as gifts.”
Raffle tickets are available from the above address and some of the great prizes on offer include a holiday to Littlesea Holiday Park in Weymouth, a meal for two at the Shah Indian Resturant in Burnham, a carvery for 4 people, including wine at the Berrow Inn, and more.
