Residents in Burnham-On-Sea have this week voiced their concerns about plans by a property developer to build 13 new homes.
Persimmon wants to construct the homes at its Berrow Court site in Berrow Road, but residents in nearby Naish Road say the plans are unacceptable.
They attended a meeting of the Town Council’s Planning Applications Committee on Wednesday (November 3rd), as pictured, where councillors considered the proposals.
Committee Chairman Pauline Pollard told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Members objected to the amended plan. Properties surrounding the site all had garages and therefore removing the garages on the development would result in the properties being out of keeping with the area.”
“Members were also concerned to see that the paths and infrastructure in place so far on the site showed paths much higher than anticipated, and that this caused concern that the finished floor levels to the properties would be higher than laid down in the conditions.”
“The Town Council was also concerned that the 6 inch sewerage pipe in Naish road would not be able to deal with the waste from new development, and are surprised that Wessex Water had permitted this. Members would appreciate the District Councils comment on this matter.”
Resident Barry Popham, who was among those at the meeting, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is another example of a mighty developer coming in and unveiling major plans without considering nearby residents.”
“This development has already caused a loss of privacy for homes in the area and we also have concerns about the height of the homes and the capacity of the sewage system here. We will be fighting the proposals all the way.”
The scheme will be considered by Sedgemoor District Council’s planning officers during the next few weeks.
