Berrow’s sand dunes will be tidied up by a group of conservation volunteers on Sunday (February 28th) when they carry out sea buckthorn scrub clearance.
The Sedgemoor Conservation Volunteers will make their annual visit to the nature reserve to plant marram and clear sea buckthorn as part of a day of conservation work.
“Since its introduction less than a century ago, the sea buckthorn has spread over about half of the area, leading to the loss of much of the grassland habitat,” the group’s spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
The reserve is owned and managed by Sedgemoor District Council and is included within the Berrow Dunes Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
