Berrow beach walker Graham Parker had a surprise when he found this 8ft long swordfish washed up on the tideline on Monday (July 8th).
Graham told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s not what you come across every day on Berrow beach!”
“An 8ft swordfish was where the cars park on Berrow beach. When I got there, the beachwarden had everything in hand.”
“I think a team of marine medics were on site to recover it. I think it must have come in on last night’s high tide – you could see where it had been thrashing about as the tide went out.”
The discovery will remind readers of some other unusual beach finds over the years.
In 2009, a huge 10-metre long whale was spotted in the waters off Burnham-On-Sea. In 2010, a stranded seal was rescued on Burnham-On-Sea beach. A young common seal was also rescued from Brean beach in 2008.
And last year, a large porpoise was rescued near Burnham-On-Sea lighthouse by crews from Burnham’s BARB Search & Rescue.
