The access road onto Berrow beach has this week again been closed to all traffic by Sedgemoor District Council following damage caused by high tides.
As pictured here, the concrete road surface is crumbling away, and with sand washed away from around it, there is a sharp drop onto the beach that could potentially damage vehicles.
Council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are looking at a more permanent solution, which involves specialist engineers going out to have a look.”
“The additional problem is the transatlantic cables which run directly under the road which are a factor in the equation. So, we are looking at solutions, but, as always, any solution will be cost-dependant.”
“Brean beach remains open for cars to park on the beach, but caution is necessary as tides are high.”
Access to The Sundowner Cafe, next to the Berrow access road, is unaffacted and it remains open as usual.
