Sackfuls of rubbish collected during beach clean-up at Berrow

-

A major beach clean-up was carried out at Berrow on Sunday (September 18th) as part of a nationwide event called ‘Beachwatch Big Weekend’.

Organised by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS), the initiative aims to help protect marine wildlife.

Around 20 volunteers braved the wet weather to take part in Sunday’s clean-up at Berrow.

Several sackfuls of rubbish were collected and taken away by the organisers, who said they were happy with how it had gone.

“We were pleased with the turnout considering the poor weather and managed to collect a large quantity of rubbish, ranging from plastic bottles and tin cans to cotton buds and light bulbs,” spokeswoman Alison Slade told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The event was followed by a guided walk around the sand dunes and marsh area by local nature expert Bob Corns.
