New Burnham-On-Sea Bereavement Cafe support group launches

Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrews Church will open its doors later this month to the first meeting of the Burnham Bereavement Cafe.

Offering a safe and welcoming space for anyone throughout the town and area, it’s targeted at all those have been affected by loss or bereavement.

Rev Sharon Eldergill said: “Burnham Bereavement Cafe is a meeting place where people can come and drink tea, eat cake with others who share the pain of loss, and the challenge of adapting to new circumstances following the death of a loved one.”

“There will be space for discussion, and exploring some of the issues surrounding bereavement, or the opportunity to just sit quietly amongst friends.”

“The cafe will be a support group, rather than a counselling service, but is nonetheless staffed by volunteers from different walks of life who have had training and experience to listen sensitively and appropriately to some of the circumstances and feelings that arise throughout the journey through bereavement towards a ‘New Normal’.”

The cafe meets for the first time on September 20th at 4pm for an hour, and thereafter every third Sunday of the month at St Andrew’s Church in Victoria Street. Everybody is welcome to come and to bring a friend if they would like to.
