Burnham group unveils new bench on seafront in memory of member

-

A new bench has been unveiled on Burnham-On-Sea seafront this week by a local group in memory of one of their members who passed away earlier this year.

Members of the Burnham’s ‘Fibromyalgia Heart of Somerset Support Group’ gathered on The Esplanade on Saturday (May 30th) for a short ceremony next to the bench in memory of Glyn Melhuish, 55.

The group’s Sam Everiss explained: “At the beginning of the year we lost a wonderful member of our support group. Glyn was a lovely, beautiful and valued member of group and it was a shock when he passed away.”

“We wanted to do something special for him and honour his memory so we have fundraised tirelessly to raise funds so we could have a bench for him on the seafront.”

She added: “The seafront was where a few of us met every week for our ‘fibro walks’. These were short walks along the seafront to try and get active but at our own pace. Glyn loved this walk and it was something we all looked forward to every week.”

On Saturday, Glyn’s wife Penny unveiled the new bench, as pictured, and a dozen balloons were released by the group’s members in his memory. This was followed by a get-together afterwards to celebrate his life. Penny thanked the group for all it had done and said she was “very touched and grateful.”
