A Burnham-On-Sea councillor swapped his formal suit for a beekeeper’s outfit to collect a large swarm of 5,000 bees this week.
Peter Burridge-Clayton, who is a trained beekeeper alongside his council role, took away the swam from Burnham’s South Esplanade on Thursday, as pictured here.
He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I was just chatting outside the Bay View Cafe when the large swarm appeared in the area.”
“They settled in the hedgerow outside B&M so I got my beekeeping suit and collected them.”
“The owner of the cafe on the other side of the road was particularly pleased that I’d removed them.”
Peter – who was elected Vice Chairman of Somerset County Council this week – says that he rehoused the bees with a beginner in Banwell later on Thursday afternoon.
“Hopefully they will flourish and the new bee keeper will be happy and remain interested for years to come,” said Peter. “Bees are very important for our environment.”
Peter collected a swarm of 10,000 bees during the Burnham-On-Sea Food Festival in May 2015, as we featured here at the time.
