Bathing water quality in Burnham-On-Sea, Berrow and Brean has been praised in a new survey published this week.
The findings of the annual study, which were released on Friday by the Marine Conservation Society, are published in the 2007 Good Beach Guide.
Brean and Berrow have been awarded ‘Recommended’ status, which is the Marine Conservation Society’s highest water quality standard given to those beaches which show adequate treatment of sewage discharges.
Meanwhile, Burnham beach has also been praised, gaining a ‘Basic Pass’ for passing EC mandatory standards for water quality.
The ratings for the three local beaches are unchanged from last year. The full list of results for beaches across the UK is available here.
In April, we reported how Burnham beach was one of 73 winners in the Quality Coast Awards run by environmental charity, Encams.
Nationally, the top sea water quality rating was given to 494 out of 787 UK beaches checked by the Marine Conservation Society in the 20th anniversary of its Good Beach Guide.
