Burnham-On-Sea may have missed out on a white Christmas, but the icy start to 2009 created these wintry scenes along the town’s beach on Sunday (January 4th).
A bank of ice was washed up along the high tideline on both Saturday and Sunday, creating these unusual scenes.
Thermometers across the Burnham area sank to a teeth-chattering minus six degrees Centigrade early on Sunday morning – and the calm sea conditions have helped form the deep layer of ice.
The scenes were also repeated further along the coast at Brean (as pictured below).
Forecasters are predicting that the cold weather will continue for much of this week, with wind chill temperatures falling as low as minus six nine degrees Centigrade.
