A big clean-up operation is to be carried out on Burnham-On-Sea beach later this month to tidy up the sands in time for the start of the busy tourist season.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported earlier this week how the beach is strewn with debris, including bottles, tyres, empty barrels and even the plastic ‘shell’ of a television monitor.
Members of the Burnham Boat Owners Association saw our report and now Chairman Simon Stroud is organising the clean-up for Saturday March 17th from 11am.
“We’ve run events like this before – the last was about ten years ago, ” he said. “We’ve got the tractor, trailers and all the other machinery needed to do the job.”
He added that the group would focus its efforts on the area between the Yacht Club and the low lighthouse, pictured right.
“There is a lot of rubbish on the beach after the stormy high tides over the winter and we’re keen to have it tidy again for the Easter period.”
He added that the date of the event is provisional and that it may be subject to change, so keep an eye on Burnham-On-Sea.com in the coming days.
