Over 40 sackfuls of rubbish were collected by a team of volunteers during a Spring clean of Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow beaches on Saturday (March 29th).
Over 20 volunteers came forward to help the operation, which was overseen by Sedgemoor District Council, following a series of recent storms and high tides.
A dozen volunteers helped the clean-up in Burnham, which started at Maddock’s Slade, while further helpers were positioned on Berrow beach, including a team on community service.
“We were pleased to take away 40 sackfuls of rubbish and thank all those who came forward to help,” the council’s resort manager, Graham Newing, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Following the recent storms and flooding in the area, there have been tonnes of rubbish washed up on our beaches and Sedgemoor is trying to get it cleaned up before the holiday season starts in earnest.”
All the litter collected on Saturday was taken away and will be recycled, where possible, by the council.
