Volunteers wanted for beach clean-up in Burnham-On-Sea today

-

Volunteers are being sought to help with a Spring clean of Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow beaches today (Thursday, March 17th) ahead of the start of the Easter tourist season.

Sedgemoor District Council has appealed for volunteers to come forward and help the clean-up following recent storms and high tides.

The clean-up of the beach between Berrow beach car park and Maddock’s Slade in Burnham will take place between 10am and 1pm.

“Following the recent storms and flooding in the area, there are tonnes of rubbish on the beach and Sedgemoor is trying to get it cleaned up before the holiday season starts in earnest,” the council’s resort manager, Graham Newing, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We will provide gloves, bags and litter pickers. All litter collected will be taken away and recycled, where possible, by Sedgemoor District Council.”

Volunteers interested in helping should meet and park at either Berrow Beach car park or Maddock’s Slade at 10am on 29th March. Beach Wardens will be on hand to help at both locations. Volunteers should wrap up warm and wear suitable clothing with boots and gloves.
