Big beach clean-up operation planned in Burnham-On-Sea area

-

Volunteers are being invited to take part in a big beach cleaning exercise at Berrow later this month.

The Big Spring Beach Clean will be held on Saturday 23rd March between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

Sedgemoor District Council is joining up with Surfers Against Sewerage, the national coastal conservation charity, to oversee the event on Berrow beach.

“The event will not only clean up the beach, but help educate participants as to how they can get more involved with coastal conservation activities. All litter collected will be taken away, and recycled where possible, by Sedgemoor District Council,” council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The beach clean at Berrow is just one of a series across the country which will see over 50 beaches, and hundreds of volunteers, from across the UK come together to engage volunteers and seaside communities with protecting their coastal environments.

All volunteers will be encouraged to meet and park on Berrow beach and are being advised to wrap up warm, bring a bin bag and rubber gloves.

All helpers will get a free car sticker from Surfers Against Sewerage and a voucher for hot drinks at Burnham-On-Sea pier courtesy of the owners.
