A car which became stranded on Brean’s mudflats 40 years ago has resurfaced this week, much to the surprise of the village’s beach wardens.
After dealing with a busy summer of car rescues, this latest stricken vehicle has been the centre of attention for beach wardens Dave Furber and Pete Williams.
The heavily-corroded remains of the car are believed to be of a 1960s Ford.
They appeared this week after several stormy high tides shifted the sand and mud from around it, as pictured here.
Beach warden Dave Furber told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We first noticed the vehicle at the weekend and several other parts have emerged nearby during recent days, including a steering wheel and door panels.”
“I’m pretty sure the vehicle dates back to the 1960s. The wheels, metal work and steering wheel are all typical of cars from that period,” he added.
“The mud on the beach has shifted around a lot recently and this has disturbed the surface around the car.”
