The owner of a car which has resurfaced from Brean’s mudflats after being lost for almost 40 years has come forward to claim the vehicle!
Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report on Wednesday how the car had been spotted by beach wardens Dave Furber and Pete Williams.
Our story was followed by the Daily Mirror, Daily Telegraph, several regional newspapers and the BBC.
Now, the owner of the vehicle, Terry Hart from Lawrence Weston in Bristol, has come forward to explain how it got there.
He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m convinced it’s my Vauxhall Victor 101 which I lost on the beach in 1973.”
“We were out fishing and the tide caught us. We tried to reverse the car out but the clutch went and it was goodbye car! It’s so nice to see it back.”
The heavily-corroded remains have only become visible this week after several stormy high tides shifted the sand and mud from around it, as pictured.
Beach warden Dave Furber told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We first noticed the vehicle at the weekend and several other parts have emerged nearby during recent days, including a steering wheel and door panels.”
