Berrow Beach is to be transformed into a film set on Wednesday (January 19th) when the BBC records an episode of a major primetime drama series.
A helicopter and outside broadcast unit will be used to film the beach scenes for the BBC1 programme on Wednesday, prompting the temporary closure of the beach to the public
The film crews will be using a large area of the beach, which will be closed for a day, along with an area two miles south of the beach car park.
Tim Mander, Sedgemoor District Council’s Property Manager, who negotiates filming rights, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Not only does the granting of such rights generate income into the council coffers, it also benefits the local economy as well as giving national exposure to this beautiful beach.”
“It is clear that the BBC are attracted both by the outstanding natural beauty of Berrow beach, its accessibility and the co-operation that the council offers.”
Some of the scenes will be filmed from a helicopter, as the BBC tries to record a dream sequence on a deserted beach.
Marshals will be in place on the beach and in the sand dunes to keep the beach clear as filming takes place between 8am and 4pm.
“The BBC would greatly appreciate it if for this day only you could use other parts of the beach which will not be affected. They apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused,” added Mr Mander.
