Burnham RNLI appears in BBC weather report

Burnham-On-Sea RNLI took centre stage during a live television broadcast from the town.

Crew members from the Staines Whitfield and ‘D’ Class lifeboats were interviewed and a live TV weather forecast was transmitted from Burnham-On-Sea beach for the BBC’s Points West news programme.

TV presenter David Garmston discussed sea safety with Burnham RNLI Helmsman Glen Cutter (pictured below).

Glen said during the interview: “We are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year.

“We would rather be called out to assist someone, no matter how small a problem, than be called out later to a life-threatening situation.”

In fact, the responsibility for calling out RNLI lifeboats rests with the HM Coastguard control at Swansea.

David went on to discuss the conditions with weatherman Richard Angwin.

BBC weather forecaster Richard AngwinWeather forecaster Richard Angwin (pictured) presented a live weather report from Burnham as unseasonally stormy weather swept across the country, bringing rain and strong winds to the region.

A BBC satellite truck was parked on the beach by Burnham-On-Sea jetty to transmit pictures back to the BBC’s regional broadcast centre in Bristol.
