Burnham-On-Sea MP’s praise for town’s ‘thriving’ BAY Centre

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s MP said this week he is delighted to see the town’s BAY Centre “going from strength to strength” – as he made a special visit to the popular facilities.

During a short tour of the centre with Mike Lang, BAY Centre Chairman, MP James Heappey heard about the success and high occupancy of the centre.

Mike explained how busy the centre is, quashing a report by a local newspaper that suggested its future is under threat.

In fact, it is the Tuesday youth club – called the Zone Youth Club – that is based at the BAY Centre that is at risk of closure, which has been correctly reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com during recent weeks.

Mike added: “There had been some confusion with the threatened closure of the Tuesday after school club – called The Zone – and some locals had erroneously believed the closure of our centre was imminent. This is of course incorrect, and the centre is very much ‘business as usual’.”

After a tour of the building, Mr Heappey was introduced to members of the U3A table tennis club and other members.

After the visit James said: “So much happens at the BAY Centre every week serving so many different parts of our community. It was great to meet some of the centre’s users.”

“It’s good to see the centre going from strength to strength – long may it continue as such an important part of the Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge community.”

Mike added: “All visitors are welcome at the BAY Centre, and members of our trustees committee work hard ensuring the building is up to scratch.”

“We try to run as a community resource, with running costs met from rents paid by our user groups. Additionally, repairs and improvements to the building are funded by occasional fundraising and various improvement grants.”
