Burnham-On-Sea Youth Centre’s fundraising appeal to replace its leaking roof was handed a welcome boost on Tuesday (May 24th).
Burnham-On-Sea Rotary Club presented a cheque for £1,000 to the BAY Centre team towards the £33,000 costs of replacing the aging roof.
Built in 1966, the centre’s roof experiences leaks during heavy rain and has had to be patched up by volunteers.
As first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com earlier this year, a working party has been set up to spend a lot of time keeping the roof watertight.
The trustees elected a sub-committee to apply for grant funding, with instructions to coordinate repairs of the roof.
“We are very grateful to Burnham Rotary Club for this generous donation, which will go towards the centre’s roof fundraising campaign,” said Neville Jones, who is one of the trustees.
The project is in the initial stage with applications for major funding having been submitted and a request for support has been circulated among local fundraising support organisations.
Groups within the BAY Centre will be organising a fundraising fun day at the centre soon.
