Burnham-On-Sea’s first ever Acoustic Battle of the Bands was a great success at the town’s Princess Theatre on Friday night (June 8th).
Organised by the team behind the annual Burnham FolkFest, the event sought to find up-and-coming local musical talent.
“The standard of musicianship and songwriting was very high and there were excellent performances from Bruce Hudson, local indie duo Spirolyte and hot young guitarist Darren Hodge,” said FolkFest
Vice-Chairman Graham Cook.
“The victor, though, winning slots on both Saturday and Sunday of this year’s FolkFest and a day’s recording at Beehive Studios, was Leah Goldie, who impressed the judges with a performance that brought to mind both Tori Amos and Norah Jones.”
A teacher by trade, Leah’s a fine pianist and singer-songwriter who has been writing since the age of 12. The judges also deemed the other three acts worthy of slots on FolkFest Saturday.
